This highly capable off-roader can tackle the toughest of mountain tracks yet it looks just as much at home in the middle of the city.
The Volkswagen Touareg was a joint venture project developed by Volkswagen Group, Audi, and Porsche, and the idea was to create a car that was an off-road vehicle but one that could be handled like a sports car. The first model came about in 2003 and won multiple awards, such as the "Best Luxury SUV" in 2003 from Car and Driver magazine and the "Sport/Utility of the Year" in 2004, an award offered by the Motor Trend magazine.
In 2010, Volkswagen announced the introduction of the second generation Touareg which came with a completely redesigned bodywork and a 5 percent increase in torsional rigidity as well as being 208 kg lighter than the first-generation model. The interior was also completely redone, with the focus on improving the quality of materials and comfort levels.
Then again, in 2014, the second-generation Volkswagen Touareg received a facelift in the shape of revised bumpers and grilles, new alloy wheel designs, new exterior colours, and bi-xenon headlamps. Inside, the front seats were updated to have standard lumbar support along with an automatic post-collision braking system, white controls illumination, chrome accents, and optional features like Nappa leather upholstery and wood trimmings.
The Touareg comes as standard with a four-wheel-drive system as well as automatic progressively locking centre differential, and a "low range" setting that can be activated with in-cabin controls.
With four different trims available, it can be hard to choose which Touareg is right for you. The V6 Sport features remote power tailgate with closing assist, automatic, adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights, LED taillights, 18" Arica wheels, 6.5" Touchscreen HD 8speaker radio, Dual-zone Climate Control, Heated front seats, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Silver roof rails, Heated side mirrors/windshield washer nozzles, HomeLink garage door opener, V-Tex leatherette seating and Bluetooth with Audio.
Then you have the Touareg V6 Sport with Technology which adds or upgrades to a Hands-free easy-open liftgate, Park distance control, Rearview camera system, 8" Touchscreen navigation, Autonomous emergency braking, front collision warning, Adaptive cruise control, Keyless access with push-button start, Lane departure warning and Trailer hitch.
The Touareg V6 Lux includes a panoramic sunroof, Vienna leather seating, a 14-way power adjustable seats with driver memory, ventilated front seats, 19" Salvador alloy wheels (available 21" Mallory Wheel Package), Power-folding side mirrors with memory and floodlighting and Electric seat release for rear bench seat.
And finally, the Touareg V6 Executive boasts 21" Mallory wheels, an overhead view camera, 10-speaker Dynaudio premium sound system, Heated rear seats, Power-adjustable steering wheel, and rear sunshades.
