The Volkswagen brand is synonymous with campervans, and even after decades of hugely popular campervans produced bearing the iconic VW badge, the brand continues to evolve and innovate. The Volkswagen California is a prime example of this. While the VW California may have been released 30 years ago the range continues to expand and remains a go-to choice for those looking for an approved used campervan.
In August 2003, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles launched the VW California with a design based on the Volkswagen Transporter. The Volkswagen California range evolved in 2007 with the introduction of an all-new California Beach model featuring a pop-top bed.The California Campervan offers the perfect combination of attractive exterior and interior comfort. This winning combination makes it the ideal vehicle for either a day trip to the beach or a week-long road trip.
2019 saw the launch of the VW T6.1 California. The all-new California is available in two trim levels; Coast, and the top-of-the-range Ocean. The Beach trim level was discontinued when the all-new VW T6.1 California was launched in 2019. Both of the trim levels feature a range of driver aids, including electrically power-assisted steering (EPAS), six airbags, lane-keeping assist, plus automatic parking, to name just a few. The top of the range Ocean trim now has an electro-hydraulic pop-up roof to replace the manual system which remains in the Coast trim level.
2019 saw the launch of the brand-new, and seriously impressive, Volkswagen Grand California based on the VW Crafter. This motor home has an incredible array of features and has everything you would expect from your home-from-home on wheels, plus a whole lot more.
The Volkswagen Grand California is available in a choice of two sizes; 600 or 680. Both models are incredibly spacious inside and even feature a separate wet room. The Grand California comes equipped with a kitchen featuring a twin gas hob, freezer compartment, 70-litre fridge, and sink. The 600 option features a raised roof, which can be used to create an optional additional sleeping space for two, meaning that a total of four people can sleep in the 600 model. The 680 model does not have this feature and comfortably accommodates two people in its spacious interior.
The Grand California features a 2.0-litre TDi turbodiesel engine, with front-wheel drive as standard. However, four-wheel drive is also available as an option. Both the 600 and 680 trim levels feature 17” silver alloys, a Discover Media navigation system, electronically controlled air conditioning, and leather-wrapped heated steering wheels. These features combined with the spacious interior make the VW Grand California a luxury campervan of choice.
