AutoTrader, a well-established name in the British motoring community, has been a driving force since its founding in 1975 by John Madejski. The first Auto Trader release was Hurst's Thames Valley Trader in 1977, followed closely by Southern Auto Trader in 1981. This popular magazine, issued weekly in various regional editions, quickly became the go-to publication for both drivers and motor retailers seeking to buy or sell a car. In its prime, circulation reached a staggering 368,000 per week in January 2000.

In 1996, AutoTrader launched its first website, which successfully operated alongside the magazine for 17 years. By December 2012, the website had attracted an impressive 6.5 million visitors. As a result, the decision was made to discontinue the print magazine, and in 2013, the final editions of this iconic publication were sold.

AutoTrader has continually evolved over the years to become the UK’s largest digital automotive marketplace, now advertising new cars in addition to second hand vehicles.
