London’s ULEZ is expanding, stretching even further into the capital’s outskirts to take in a lot more people and their vehicles. Because of this, many people might find that their car can no longer be driven each day without incurring the ULEZ costs.
Fortunately, there are plenty of cars that can be used in the ULEZ zone and they span a variety of different shapes and sizes, too. Let’s take a look through.
Citroen C1
Right at the very entry point, we’ve got the dinky Citroen C1. It’s a car which looks like it’s at home in the city before you’ve even driven it, so it’s probably not that surprising that it also qualifies for free entry into the ULEZ zone.
It’s down to the C1’s compact engines and low emissions which meet the stringent requirements of the zone. It’s also a doddle to park and has light agile handling that makes it easy to drive in town.
Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta is a great option if you’re looking to drive down costs. It’s also absolutely fine to drive within the ULEZ area, but it happens to also have great handling and a really balanced chassis setup that makes it a joy out of town, too.
Available with three- and five-door options, the Ford Fiesta may stop production soon but that doesn’t stop it from being a great ULEZ-friendly option.
Audi A3 Sportback
The modern Audi A3 is an ideal choice for the city, but thanks to great refinement it’s also superb on the motorway as well. Clean-running engines ensure that it meets emissions requirements, while there’s also the option of a plug-in hybrid version that’ll make things even greener.
The Sportback offers more interior space than you might think, too, while a large boot can handle a lot of luggage.
Seat Ibiza
The Seat Ibiza is another great option for the city as it’s compact and easy to park, but thanks to light steering and easy controls is great for dashing in and out of traffic too. Much like other cars on this list, the Ibiza is also surprisingly refined on the motor would should you want to travel further afield.
The fuel-sipping range of engines that the Ibiza is accompanied by means that’s ideal for negotiating the ULEZ charges, too.
Jaguar I-Pace
Electric cars have zero emissions so don’t qualify for the ULEZ charge right away. One of the best EVs about is the Jaguar I-Pace as it combines great build quality and some really clever technology in one good-looking SUV.
The electric performance is great for making speedy progress through town, too, while a variety of parking aids make positioning this car even easier.
Honda Jazz
The Honda Jazz is a superb all-rounder which also meets the ULEZ guidelines. Despite being quite small, its boxy design means that it’s got loads of space inside to offer, as well as plenty of headroom that’ll make it a hit with taller passengers and drivers.
We also like the Jazz’s clever ‘Magic Seat’ feature which allows the rear seats to fold forward and up, releasing the whole height of the car for storage - it’s great for transporting taller items like plants.
