Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer

Sneak peek: Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer coming in 2024

Volkswagen’s line-up of electric cars is really gathering pace. In hot succession, there has been the launch of the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and of course the ID.Buzz.

The Brand-New Volkswagen ID7 Tourer

Next up comes the arrival of Volkswagen’s electric flagship – the ID.7 – in early 2024. It is a new electric saloon that gets a range of new technology, as well as a larger battery that gives it the longest electric range of any Volkswagen yet – up to 435 miles. But the ID.7 won’t only be available as a saloon, but also a Tourer estate.

Set to arrive later in 2024, it’s only been shown so far in heavy camouflage, but let’s take a look at what you can expect.

It’s Volkswagen’s first electric estate car

Volkswagen has plenty of history when it comes to estate cars, with models like the Golf and Passat being popular family favourites over the years.

Until now, however, Volkswagen has yet to offer an electric estate car, but that will change with the ID.7 Tourer. It will also be one of the first cars in its class to go on sale, with many manufacturers yet to offer an EV estate car.

Generous interior space

Space is perhaps the most important factor when it comes to estate cars, and the ID.7 Tourer isn’t set to disappoint.

Volkswagen says that five people will be able to sit comfortably in the car, while the boot measures a handy 545 litres upright, and 1,714 litres with the rear seats folded. This is set to make it the most practical electric estate car on the market at launch.

Long electric range

Volkswagen hasn’t yet announced any specific range and technical details for the new ID.7 Tourer, but we know it will offer an electric range given it shares the same powertrains as the saloon.

That means the availability of a large battery, which on the saloon, enables a claimed range of up to 435 miles – one of the longest of any EV currently on sale. Expect a slight dip with the case of the estate car, but thanks to its aerodynamic shape, it should not be far behind.

Impressive range of technology

Technology is one of the greatest strengths of the ID.7, and the Tourer model is expected to carry over many of the innovations.

Features will include a huge 15-inch touchscreen, an augmented reality head-up display and a new more neatly integrated climate menu in the infotainment. There will be a range of driver assistance features available that should help to take the pain out of long-distance drives and make the ID.7 Tourer an ideal car for those doing lots of miles.
