England fans looking to support the 3 Lions at this summer’s euros by placing flags on their cars risk a fine of up to £1000 and 3 points on their licence if they don’t follow the laws around flags on cars stated in regulation 60 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) regulations.
How big can a flag be?
Flags on cars must be no larger than the size of an A4 piece of paper. This is because if the flag were to fly off and land on another car, anything bigger than a piece of A4 could seriously hinder the driver’s view.
Where can I fit the flag on my car?
The flag should not interfere with the driver’s view of the road in anyway. Therefore, flags should not be placed on the bonnet, or leading edge of the vehicle, and cannot be obstruct the cars mirrors.
We suggest attaching the flag to a roof rack or antenna if your car has one.
How should I fit my flag?
When fitting your flag make sure there are no sharp edges as this could land you a costly fine. Fasten your flag in a secure way so that it will not fly off. Many flags can be bought with clips on them which can clip onto the car ensuring they’re properly secured.
