BYD is one of the newest manufacturers to explode onto the UK market, here we are taking a look at the brand-new BYD electric SUV the Atto 3.

What is it?

Did you know a brand is out there selling more electric cars than Hyundai, Volkswagen, and at times, Tesla? It's BYD, a not-so-familiar name, but one to watch out for. This Chinese manufacturer has just emerged onto the scene in the UK and is growing in popularity day-by-day.

The first BYD model to reach the UK market is the Atto 3, the smallest electric SUV in the range, is a trailblazer, holding its own in a fast-growing EV market.

What is the range of the BYD Atto 3?

The BYD Atto 3 is a very impressive small SUV. This fully electric vehicle is capable of up to 261 miles of pure electric range on a full charge and has a power output of 204 hp which is plenty for the everyday driver. The 0-62 mph acceleration time is 7.3 seconds, which makes stop-start, in-town driving and motorway commutes easy alike,

As already mentioned, the Atto 3 is powered by BYD’s revolutionary Blade Battery. Originating as a battery manufacturer, BYD are putting their expertise on show with this battery. Equipped with lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) as the active material promises a high-level of safety.

It’s also been awarded a 5-star rating from Euro NCAP, industry experts in crash safety rating and is jam-packed with driver assistance and safety systems, from adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection and forward-collision alert.

Is the Atto 3 reliable?

Along with safety, the Blade Battery also comes with increased reliability. Each battery comes with an 8 year or 90,000-mile warranty for the drive motor and drive controller.

Along with the safety and reliability of the blade battery, the BYD Atto 3 also offers a range of up to 261 miles, giving you plenty of miles for your day-to-day drivers.

What’s it like to drive?

Driving the BYD Atto 3 is a great experience, filled with both comfort and excitement. In urban spaces, the car manoeuvres smoothly, thanks to its light steering and considerable 10.7-meter turning circle. Its soft suspension allows for a comfortable ride, effortlessly easing over city streets' lumps and bumps.

How does it look?

On the outside, the Atto 3 carries a simple yet neat design. It echoes hints of the Volkswagen ID.4 in the detailing along its edges. You'll also notice the full ‘Build Your Dreams’ slogan written across the tailgate, giving it that extra touch of personality.

The model has an expressive upward sloping waistline, a variety of vibrant colours to choose from and a selection of dynamic alloy wheels.

What colours does the BYD Atto 3 come in?

The Atto 3 is available in two trim levels, the Atto 3 Comfort and the Atto 3 Design, both are available in five colours; Surfing Blue, Parkour Red, Climbing Grey, Skiing White and Exploring Green.

What’s it like inside?

The interior of the Atto 3 really is where BYD have decided to go to town. The interior styling follows a quirky gym-inspired design aesthetic, with barbell-style levers as door handles, a kettlebell-handled gear selector and a centre armrest that is inspired by a treadmill.

Whilst the playful interior offers a unique and distinctive style, it also offers a fantastic level of comfort and convenience. The ergonomically integrated front sports seats are heated and electrically adjustable creating a comfortable driving experience, they are also made from a sustainable vegan leather.

There is also multi-coloured ambient lighting and a panoramic glass sunroof which not only adds light and personalisation to the interior but adds a very luxurious element.

What specification does the BYD Atto 3 have?

The BYD Atto 3 has a fantastic level of standard spec. There are currently two trim levels: the Comfort and the Design.

The Comfort trim is the most affordable option and has highlights including the open panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and adaptive cruise control. There is also a cockpit of connectivity which includes a 12.8” touch screen. The display can showcase Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and allows hands free use via the intelligent voice control.

If you decide to upgrade to the Design trim level the touchscreen will be replaced with a larger version at 15.8” and a powered tailgate and folding door mirrors will come as standard.

How does the Atto 3 compare to the Tesla Model Y?

The BYD Atto 3 is in direct competition with Tesla Model Y. For a long time, Tesla has been a market leader in the EV world.
